Cuesta de enero

It is good to acquire, but it is much better to keep.

The holiday season is officially over, and so the fearsome January expenses have come to have their way in the pocket of Mexican families. Given this, we want to share with you some great saving strategies with which you can support yourself so as not to resent so much the expenses that we have beencarrying since December. Also, if you are preparing to buy your own home and you need to save, this article is for you.

Set a budget and keep accounts

The main thing, if you want to be successful this season, will be to set a budget. It is important that you consider the most essential expenses as priorities, as they can be: basic service payments, monthly payments for your new house, pantry and articles of the supermarket, public transport or fuel for your car.

Then you will have to secure a “cushion” for emergencies, such as medical services or payments that you may not have contemplated.

And number three, a small amount for a treat you want to give yourself. We recommend not more than 10% of your monthly income.

Avoid unnecessary expenses

We are not in a good time to be wasteful! Don’t shell out money you wouldn’t normally have to spend just like that; if it is something that you use but it is not something of primary necessity, wait a bit and try to make the purchase the following month, or when you are a lot more stable. Don’t trust credit cards either; remember that it is money that you will end up
paying sooner or later.

We recommend you avoid the following expenses:

  • Meals away from home
  • Taxi services
  • Unnecessary items in the pantry
  • Clothes we don’t need
  • Unplanned departures
  • Online purchases
  • Months without ineffective interests
  • Unnecessary digital services (Cable TV, Netflix, Prime, Spotify)

Don’t fall for the irresistible sales

Do not get carried away by the discounts and supposed offers that department stores or supermarkets offer you. Compare prices, both in physical stores and online, and take advantage only of articles that you really need or that are a primary need.

Remember to set a budget for the most necessary purchases and try not to stray too much of the margin.
